IOWAAAA!!

08/21/2020

It was another early morning for me. There was a yoga class nice and early, and I wanted to be outta there before it started. I may have scared the shit out of the yoga teacher opening up the studio, she was definitely not expecting me. It was not too difficult to navigate downtown to the pedestrian bridge. Right as I crossed into Iowa, the sun was rising, what a glorious return to the motherland.

Shortly after, I found myself at a gas station in Council Bluffs. I chugged an energy drink and ate a fig-filled bar. After crossing through town, I found Railroad Highway. This route was familiar to me, and it felt fine to retrace my steps. I could not help but think about how different everything was the last time I was riding this route. The truth, I cannot believe how much I have grown in just a mere two months. After passing through Underwood and Neola, I arrived at my breakfast destination.

This cafe bowling alley impressed me the first time around, and I had to go back. My feast included four over-easy eggs, four sausage patties, two slices of toast, hashbrowns, and three cups of coffee. The food was incredible, and I caught up with the owner who I met at the start of the journey. After hanging out and working on my Chromebook for a bit, I returned to the road.

Damn, these rolling hills are no fucking joke. After eleven miles of them, I was feeling beat. There was also some time to kill, so I decided to grab a beer or something. There was a bomb Mexican restaurant in Avoca. Somehow I had room for food and got two tacos with rice and beans. It took two coronas to wash it all down. Feeling rested, I biked seven more miles to my final destination of Walnut. I was thirty minutes early for the motel check-in, and I worked on things in the lobby. When I got into my room, I jumped into the shower.

After cleaning up, the Kum & Go across the street provided me with dinner supplies. For a few hours, I worked on my adequate autobiography. It was time for dinner. After three minutes in the microwave, I enjoyed a shrimp ramen bowl. It was not terrible, and I needed all the calories I could carry for tomorrow. After food, I continued grinding on my writing. The remainder of the evening was spent working. Tomorrow is going to be a big day, and I cannot wait to be back in Des Moines. See you soon! Route is here.
